Nakasu Street Festival

Last Saturday night there was a street festival in Nakasu, a neighborhood in central Fukuoka.
This band was playing that traditional Japanese song, "Oh When the Saints Go Marching In," as we arrived:

We enjoyed some festival food. As far as I could tell, this one was traditional Japanese delicious lasagna in a pita pocket:

Then the real action began. We watched these women carry each other (and the shrine of the God of Nakasu) on their shoulders while they chanted and bobbed to the beat:

We watched these men and women chant and dance while drinking "sake":


And we saw this lady perform with taiko drummers. She may be small, but her voice is mighty. She reminded me of a Japanese Dolly Parton, but Jake pointed out that there are *some* differences between the two:
